Student Testimonials

While the directors and staff members can speak endlessly about the benefits, appeals, and reasons why you or your child should be in the band, it may be hard to take our word for it. After all, this is what we do for a living, so of course we’re going to want to tell everyone how great being in the band is. If you still need some convincing, check out what some of our BHS Band students have to say about being a member of the Ole Brook Bands:

“I got many friends out of band. You find self-discipline and confidence. You learn how to work as a team and get through things together.”

- Tre, 11th Grade Tenor Saxophone and 2025-2026 Saxophone Co-Section Leader

“I joined the band because I made so many more friends than I did in regular classes. Joining the band also taught me leadership and kindness. Another big thing is teamwork. Joining the band can give you lifelong skills that can make you grow into an excellent individual. It can give you lifelong friendships.”

- Erica, 10th Grade Trombone

“I love the community that we have and the events we do. I LOVE football games. Green, you’re so right; I didn’t know who I was before this but that’s why [I love the band]. I love playing my instrument.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“Band is a very fun experience where you can learn many different life skills. My favorite thing about the band is learning the halftime show and seeing everything come together. From the hornline playing their music to color guard dancing and creating visuals for the show, it is a great opportunity to work on teamwork and building bonds. 10/10 would recommend!!!”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“Why you should join band: you build friendships, you learn more about valuable life skills, it is really fun, you get into games for free. [It’s] genuinely the best decision I’ve made. I’ve grown as a person because of this program. It creates so many memories with people you love. There are many benefits.”

- Aniyah, 10th Grade Clarinet

“I love seeing and watching other bands at competitions. I love marching and seeing the potential I have. [Band] teaches me how to overcome situations and become better. I love the new people I get to meet.”

- Ke’Niyah, 10th Grade Trumpet

“Band is a place to develop a good work ethic. It not only allows you to meet more people, it gives you major opportunities to start your life on the right foot going towards graduating. You get to build great relationships with directors, students, etc. You also get in games for free.”

- Lael, 10th Grade Tuba

“I love band because you can make friends that can be with you your entire life. And also, I love the stuff I do in band and want it to be my job one day. I joined the band because of all the friends you make here and you can also have a lot of leadership opportunities.”

- Eric, 9th Grade Trombone

“Being in the band is actually really fun and it’s probably my best decision yet. You get into football games for free. You get awesome new memories with friends, and you gain instrument knowledge with a side of lots of field trips. Band shaped me, not only as an artist but also as a person and I hope you give band a chance as well!:

- Eleanor, 10th Grade Clarinet

“So far my band years have been so good. I have made so many friendships with people and even came out of my shell. I also became more confident in myself. It feels like a family.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“I joined the band initially because of the trips mentioned when we were talked to. But I soon realized that there was so much love and passion within all of my classmates. Band has opened up so many opportunities that I am so grateful for. I unlocked a passion I never would’ve thought was in me. Playing my instrument and making music with my best friends is like no other. The overall environment is just the best.”

- Kynnedi, 12th Grade Flute and 2025-2026 Flute Section Leader

“I love band because it’s given me an opportunity to meet new people and learn lessons. I’ve met and become friends with so many people I never thought I’d be friends with. I’ve learned how to be a team player, how to talk to others, and how to be a better person.  I love band because it gives me an opportunity to learn new things.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“Band is such a great experience! I have learned so much and made so many friends. Without band, I don’t know what my life would be like, but I do know it would not be as amazing as it is now.”

- Lillian, 9th Grade Trumpet

“One thing I got from band was a sense of being a part of a team. From helping load instruments on the bus to filling coolers, band taught me how to help my team and that putting others before myself is best sometimes. Band also taught me that failing and having to try again is okay.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“One thing why I love band is because it is a great learning experience. Another reason why I love being in band is the people and the love and kindness of the directors. Also, the new friendships and people that you would get to know and the feeling of accomplishment after completing a full run of a show or performance.”

- Jonathan, 9th Grade Euphonium

“I made good friends in band and learned a lot about music and also about hard work, responsibility, and even respect. Every year I’ve had a different experience but I always have enjoyed it. Through the band program I have learned a lot about myself - my biggest strengths and weaknesses and who I like to be around. I have had tons of opportunities come to me because of band, even college scholarships. Overall, band is a great investment for any kid’s future, regardless of prior knowledge or skill level.”

- Emma, 12th Grade Percussion and 2025-2026 Percussion Captain

“I love band because of the friends it has brought me. There are people that are some of my closest friends that I would’ve never known if I wasn’t in band. Also, our directors are the best ‘teachers’ I’ve had while in high school. I have learned real world knowledge from them that I can apply while in college or when I’m a working adult!”

- Emma, 12th Grade Tuba and 2025-2026 Brass Captain

“The things I enjoy about band: the great people I’ve met and the struggles they’ve helped me with. Whether it was band related or personal. As well as the great experiences I’ve had, these people made them even better. From the freshmen to the seniors, I couldn’t explain in words how much I love band.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member

“I joined the band because I wanted to know more about the different instruments that a band has and what does the band do other than go to football games. Band gives you more opportunities than you can ever think of and my favorite thing about band is the trips, like going to Mobile for Mardi Gras and to the State Championship game. The reason I’m in band is because it’s really nice to meet other people and upperclassmen.”

- Kueenisha, 9th Grade Flute

“I like the feeling of getting better at something.”

- 2025-2026 BHS Band Member
