A Brookhaven native and graduate of Brookhaven High School, James Green is entering his first year as the Director of Bands for the Brookhaven School District. Mr. Green holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree with Honors from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at El Paso.
During his time as a student at BHS, Mr. Green was a four-year member of the Pride of Ole Brook Marching Band, serving two years as a section leader, and the Brookhaven High School Wind Ensemble. He also spent time performing as a member of the indoor percussion ensemble and jazz band. While in high school, Mr. Green was a charter member of the Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, performing two years on the Drum Corps International Tour. At Southern Miss, Mr. Green spent time performing with the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, chamber ensembles, and Symphony Orchestra/Opera Mississippi.
Prior to rejoining the Ole Brook family, Mr. Green served as a band director for the Franklin County School District. At Franklin County, Mr. Green co-taught the high school bands, grades 7-12, taught the 6th Grade Band, and assisted with the 5th Grade Band. During his time at Franklin County, Mr. Green has helped the program achieve generational success. Under his leadership, the Pride of Franklin County Marching Band achieved All-Superior ratings at the Copiah Marching Festival for the first time since 1988, as far as records indicate. He also helped the Pride of Franklin County Concert Band achieve Superior ratings at the 2024 SWMBDA Concert Festival, marking the first known time in school history that the program had achieved Superior ratings at both district marching and concert festivals in the same school year.
Along with his duties with the Franklin County School District, Mr. Green re-established and directed the Franklin County Community Band from 2024-2025. He served as the 1st Vice President of the Southwest Mississippi Band Directors Association in 2024 and as President in 2025. He holds professional affiliations with the SWMBDA, Mississippi Bandmasters Association, Mississippi Professional Educators, National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, and International Trumpet Guild. Additionally, Mr. Green is currently a member of the Ole Brook Wind Symphony’s tuba section.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Green is passionate about music, often arranging music for his ensembles, writing drill, and studying musical literature during his free time. He is also an avid sports fan, supporting the Arkansas Razorbacks and Southern Miss Golden Eagles. He is a third-generation educator in the Brookhaven School District, with two of his grandparents serving as teachers, coaches, and/or administrators, including his late grandfather James A. Sinclair, whose name is proudly placed on the BHS gymnasium and is the inspiration for the Sound of Sinclair Basketball Pep Band. His aunt has served as a teacher, coach, and administrator for the Brookhaven School District, recently retiring as the principal of Mamie Martin Elementary School, and his mother is the current head coach of the reigning 5A State Champion Brookhaven tennis team. Mr. Green is excited to return to Brookhaven High School and cannot wait to begin his tenure as the leader of the Ole Brook Bands.
In his duties as Director of Bands, Mr. Green directs the Pride of Ole Brook Marching Band, Brookhaven Wind Ensemble, Sound of Sinclair Basketball Pep Band, and Alley Cats at Ole Brook Jazz Band.
